Looking after new window tint

What to expect while new window tint cures, how to clean it safely and the everyday habits that keep the film looking right.

New window tint needs a little patience at the start and a gentle touch afterward. Here is what to expect.

The first few days: let it cure.

Keep the windows up for five days after installation while the film cures. During that time you may see slight haziness or tiny water pockets under the film. That is normal, and it clears as the film dries.

Cleaning new tint.

  • Wait out the cure period before the first cleaning.
  • Use a soft microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free glass cleaner. Ammonia can damage some films over time.
  • Wipe gently. Do not use razor blades, scrapers or abrasive pads on the inside of tinted glass.
  • Be careful around the edges, defroster lines on the rear glass and anywhere the film meets a seal.

Everyday habits.

  • Watch seat belts, bags and tools near the door glass so buckles and corners do not scratch the film.
  • Avoid stickers and suction mounts on tinted glass until the film has fully cured.
  • If you roll the windows down in the first days, you risk catching the film’s edge. Do not.

When to call us.
